Product Description
Why limit your kitchen organization options?  The versatile design of this wooden spice rack allows you to use it inside a drawer, or standing on the counter!  The spice organizer includes 20 bottles with clear tops for easy viewing, and magnetic backs for sturdiness when standing.  The free standing spice rack converts easily to a slide out spice rack, so you can change it up depending on your kitchen's needs.  Made from eco-friendly bamboo, the drawer spice rack features a modern steel front for great kitchen aesthetics!  View "OTHER INFO" tab for additional views. Individual bottles measure 3" high, 1 1/2" diameter at the base, 2" Diameter with cap on. Bamboo is an Eco-Friendly material, easily renewable and requiring very little water to grow, making it a great choice for any home!   Assembly level/degree of difficulty: No Assembly Required.

1 out of 5 stars Utterly worthless for spice storage   February 15, 2010

If I hadn't received my spice rack as a gift, I would have demanded a refund from the manufacturer. These spice jars are NOT air-tight; because of this, the jars are utterly worthless for spice storage, since oxygen can get in and damage delicate dried herbs and spices, while essential oils can evaporate out. The net result is that spices lose their flavor and color rapidly in these jars.

Yes, I know, it looks like they should seal against air, but the problems are twofold. One, there is a gap where the collars rotate to let you use the pour/spring slots. This gap prevents the jars from being airtight. Two, the tops are thin plastic and just pop into place... and pop out easily in normal use, leaving another gap where air can get in. If you don't believe me, fill the jars with water, seal them, and turn them upside-down as the water dribbles slowly out.

Other problems: the dark-colored jars make it hard to see how much spice is in them or to clearly label lids, and the crappy plastic lids rapidly become opaque with powder, fingerprints, scratches, and any residual cooking oils. This totally defeats the point of transparent lids.

This product is defective due to poor design; this is puzzling, since all the similar products do not possess the noted faults. At the very least, the jars should seal tightly and use lids with tempered glass tops, embedded into metal.
